About Co2Pathio
Built by engineers who trust evidence, not certificates.
Co2Pathio was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota to bring supply-chain-grade traceability to voluntary carbon markets — where provenance is the central unresolved problem.
Origin
The problem we couldn't stop thinking about.
In 2022, a widely-cited investigation found that a significant share of REDD+ forest protection credits issued under major voluntary standards did not represent the carbon reductions claimed. The problem was not fraud in the conventional sense — it was missing data linkage. Satellite canopy measurements existed, methodology audits existed, registry records existed. But no system connected them into a single machine-readable provenance trail. A credit's serial number proved issuance, not what was actually measured in the forest.
Nathan Osei had spent several years at a Minneapolis geospatial analytics firm building environmental data pipelines and leading measurement verification for a major North American forest carbon project. He had seen from the inside how the chain of evidence fragmented at each handoff — from field measurement to validator to registry to buyer. Priya Sundaram had built cryptographic data lineage and audit infrastructure at a fintech company, the same engineering pattern applied to financial settlement trails. When they began working together in late 2022, the fit was direct: carbon credit provenance needed exactly the chain-linking architecture that financial markets use for settlement integrity.
Co2Pathio was incorporated in Minneapolis in early 2023. The first registry integration pilot was completed that same year. As of 2025, Co2Pathio-traced credits span three voluntary registry standards and seventeen project types — with eight registry integrations active.
What We Stand For
Three operating principles.
Measurement over certification
A certificate is only as credible as the data behind it. Co2Pathio works backward from evidence — satellite datasets, validation outputs, registry records — not forward from self-reported claims.
Traceability as infrastructure
Provenance shouldn't require a custom audit request every time. It should be queryable on demand by any market participant. We build the plumbing so the data is always available, not just when someone asks.
Registries as partners
Co2Pathio doesn't compete with carbon registries. We extend their issuance records with measurement provenance that registries themselves weren't designed to capture. Trust in the voluntary carbon market is a shared goal.
Leadership
The founding team.
Nathan Osei
CEO & Co-Founder
Nathan previously built environmental data pipelines at a Minneapolis geospatial analytics firm and led the measurement verification team for a major North American forest carbon project. That experience made the data-linkage problem impossible to ignore: every handoff in the credit lifecycle dropped provenance context. He co-founded Co2Pathio in 2023 to build the infrastructure that holds it together. He leads product strategy, registry relationships, and platform direction.
Priya Sundaram
CTO & Co-Founder
Priya spent her previous career as a distributed systems engineer at a fintech infrastructure company, designing cryptographic ledger systems for financial audit trails. She recognised immediately that the chain-linking model she had applied to settlement integrity was exactly what carbon credit provenance required. At Co2Pathio, she leads engineering, platform architecture, and API design.
Company Timeline
Key milestones.
Incorporated in Minnesota
Co2Pathio, Inc. incorporated in Minneapolis. Amara and Marcus begin building the chain model with input from three voluntary registry methodologists.
First registry integration pilot
Pilot integration with a leading REDD+ voluntary registry completed. Chain-of-custody records generated for 1,200 credits in a controlled environment.
First external investment closed
Initial angel funding closed with climate-focused backers. Hiring expanded to include two additional satellite data engineers and an API architect.
Production launch
Platform launched in production. First Co2Pathio verification certificates issued for live market transactions. Public verification lookup goes live.
Third standard integrated; angel round closed
Methodology coverage extended to Gold Standard and ACR alongside VCS — 17 project types across three voluntary standards. Angel funding closed to accelerate registry partnership development.
